#DarkHuesChats with @itsallkirakira

Welcome back to another chapter of #DarkHuesChats!

It’s been a while since we did one of these but as the world has been opening up again, we’ve been working our 9-5’s and socialising! (Don’t worry we’re double jabbed and wearing masks!)

Alas, we digress, here is the return of the series and we’re interviewing the one and only @itsallkirakira. (content creator and small business owner) πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

1. First off, I have to say I’m in awe of your Instagram feed – your creativity is impeccable. Why did you decide to become a blogger?

That is a good question actually – I started when I was 16 as a spur of the moment thing. I was really into fashion at the time and without much thought, I decided to become a fashion blogger! My outfits were atrocious and the quality of the photos were abysmal but I was having fun and I think that’s all that really matters right? It was very therapeutic and really helped me mentally by keeping me occupied.

  1. Who inspires you and why?

Okay, every time someone has ever asked me that my mind had emptied, but from the beginning of this all I really looked up to Yossy from @withloveyossy, (Instagram) – her content is stunning! Recently, it’s been Hegia from @heyhegia because her content is also absolutely dreamy. I could go on but I would also like to drop @nyane in there too! I love beautiful things, like I thrive when everything around me is aesthetically pleasing and I know that sounds shallow but I have to be honest. All the ladies I’ve mentioned have got that down to a T!

  1. Apart from being a content creator, we’re also aware that you own a small earring business called DanMassita. Why did you start this business and how do you create these cute earrings?

Again, I am very very impulsive. In the battle between the Id, Ego and the super Ego my Id always wins hands down! I always wanted to try owning my own business, I had no idea how to make earrings at all but I was like what’s really holding me back? Apart from my ego absolutely nothing! I did use the last of my student finance for that term to pay for all the equipment so yeah it had to work out right?

I decide what earrings are going to be by thinking of my favourite snacks and then deciding if people want to wear them in their ears. Fun fact – I nearly debuted fish soul earrings but my friends told me they were horrendously ugly. They are a pair that I love looking and laughing at because they really are awful!

  1. What would you say is a pro and a con to being a small business owner as well as a content creator?

One thing I’ll admit is that you’ll totally have some dry seasons especially when you’re small and uni work is an attention-seeking toddler that requires all of your energy. It can be hard to think of ways to be creative and new designs but at the same time, it can be a good thing! It’s like a puzzle when you finally solve it you feel invincible! One thing I’ll have to note is I don’t know if it’s really a bad thing but you’re everything. As in you are your own PR, finance team, sales and customer support team etc etc

Pros: everyone!

Everyone is a pro! You guys really keep me going! Seeing you guys wear my earrings means the world to me! Honestly, I did it for a good time! I didn’t expect to make any sales if I am being honest…so yeah!

I also love learning a new skill, I know I’m not the best jewelry maker out there (yet) and there’s so much I want to learn and think that’s great!

  1. What does success look like to you? (It does not have to be blogger or business-related!)

Wow, these questions are good! I don’t know because success looks so different to different people. For some people it’s fame and recognition for others it’s money. For me? It’s just self-satisfaction being able to finally feel at peace with everything and everyone around me. I just want to be happy from the bottom of my heart and share that with everyone. (But money is cool too!)

  1. The last question, is there any advice you would give to our dark skin readers who want to be a blogger or small business owner or heck even both?

In the wise words of Shia LaBeouf β€œJUST DO IT!!!?”

I am joking (kinda) erm just go for it, some times you need cannonball into it and hope for the best. If it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work, but IF IT DOES, that is a good time! And we are all here for a good time!
